Theft is a real concern for taxi drivers and it is important that you remain vigilant during your shift. You can prevent yourself from being a victim of theft through these steps.
- Lock your taxi when you leave the taxi or you are alone in the taxi
- Minimise the amount of cash you keep in the taxi and try to promote the use of electronic payment (credit/debit card)
- using distress alarms or other designated emergency communication devices if threatened.
Drivers should also be aware of what can be classed as theft. Drivers cannot overcharge for a fare, keep anything left in a taxi, use credit cards without authority from the passenger or take a passenger’s belongings if they haven’t paid the fare. If there is any issue with an ingogo booking, a driver should call ingogo for advice.
